I have spoken before about the Golden Apron Young Chefs competition.
This year competitors are asked to ‘ create a main course dish using locally sourced produce inspired by the theme My Yorkshire.’
In order to try and encourage my pupils to enter I asked them to complete a practical assessment on the theme of My Yorkshire. They had 1 hour 30 minutes to make a main course dish and were assessed on their efforts using grading 1-9 to prepare them for next years exam.
I was very impressed with their efforts. There were toad-in-the-hole,massive Yorkshire puddings, curries, fish and chips, homemade burgers stuffed with Wensleydale cheese, rhubarb salsas etc .
They pulled out all the stops and all pupils achieved a grade 7 or above and individual feedback to help them prepare for further practical assessments.
Wot, no Fat Rascals? 😉
